Exploring Health Care Needs of Children

Hello, I am Nichole Rapids. As a parent of two young children, I am no stranger to the local healthcare clinic. Whenever the kids run a high fever, suffer from ear pain, or exhibit strange symptoms, I bring them into the clinic for an immediate checkup. The kids also receive all of the vaccinations on the given schedule at this clinic. I want to use this site to talk about the healthcare needs of children. I want to share information about procedures performed at the local clinic and reasons to go into the hospital instead. My site will also discuss various situations that necessitate a call to the triage nurse. I hope that my website will help other parents keep their kids healthy from infancy to adulthood.

4 Tips To Help Your Child Get Over A Cold

Seeing your little one suffer from cold symptoms is not fun. On top of this, you can end up feeling helpless in this situation. However, there are a few things you can do to help them recover quickly. Here are four tips to consider:

  1. Keep Your Child's Head Up: It's important that your child is not lying flat. Instead, your child's head should be elevated. This is going to make it easier for them to breathe. Otherwise, their nasal airways will become more congested, which is going to make it more difficult for them to rest and get some sleep (and sleep is very important for recovery). If your child is an infant, you will want to keep their head elevated without worrying about suffocation from a pillow. To do this, you can elevate their crib mattress by placing a pillow underneath it.
  2. Invest in a Humidifier: Investing in a humidifier is a great idea, You definitely won't regret it. You can use it while your child is dealing with a cold and you can use it during cold and flu season to prevent your child from getting sick. This helps keeps their airways moist, which is important for clear breathing.
  3. Buy Some Honey: Honey is great for dealing with a cold because it is a natural antiseptic. It soothes a sore throat and makes it easier for your child to get comfortable and sleep. You should give your child a spoonful of honey before bed or a nap. However, this is only recommended for children over the age of one.
  4. Avoid Orange Juice: It's a common misconception that orange juice is good for a sore throat. Orange juice can actually irritate the throat because orange juice is full of sugar. Sugar is not good for the body, especially when you have a cold. If your child wants something to drink, it should be water since this is the best way to hydrate the body and expel the sickness from the body.

When you follow these four tips to help your child get over a cold, you are more likely to expect great results. If your child is under the age of one, visit your pediatrician for special instructions on how to care for your child since most home remedies and medicines are not good for young babies. Your pediatrician can prescribe medication that is more effective and safe. You should also visit your pediatrician if your child has a fever along with a cold that hasn't gotten any better in 48 hours.
